Dr. Gerard van der Meiden
Special Award for his outstanding contribution to the support of Russian Culture and Language in the Netherlands
Dutch historian and translator Dr. Gerard Willem van der Meiden.
He is credited for a number of books on various topics, including on Russian history and Dutch-Russian relations. Dr. van der Meiden is the author of such monographs as Rasputin and the fall of the Russian Empire, from Pushkin to Pasternak: History of Russian Literature and others.
Dr. Van der Meiden is a well-known translator from Russian and English into Dutch. Probably some of you are familiar with Tsar: the Lost World of Nicholas and Alexander; The millions of Privalov and Goncharov’s Frigate Pallada published in 2014.
It is impossible not to mention the great contribution of Dr. Van der Meiden to bringing to life the largest in the bilateral relations history documentary and art exhibition "Russia and the Netherlands" held at Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam in 1997 during celebrating the Tsar Peter Year.
